The
Appendix
The appendix is a long, tubular organ of uncertain function that is located
in the right, lower quadrant of the abdomen (usually about 3 fingers below
and to the far right of the belly button). It can become inflammed, called
appendicitis, or it can stick to surrounding organs and cause pain. It
can also become involved with cancers, endometriosis, and other condition.
Treatment is appendectomy through either a small cut, or by laparoscopy.
Here, an instrument is grasping the fatty tissue adjacent to the appendix,
so that we can see what a normal appendix looks like.
